10 best reading game? Cookie Alphabet Puzzle

Teaching an autistic child to read is a challenge that motivates me as a special education teacher. Most of the time, the Evidence-based approach needs some tinkering for the pupil to see growth. I have the privilege of working with an extraordinary student with a unique passion for cookies. This young learner, mostly non-verbal but incredibly able to sound out letters and words, transformed our sessions into a delightful exploration of language and creativity.

Embracing the Sweetness of Books

Our journey began with a simple observation – whenever we encountered trees in the illustrations of the books we read together, he gleefully referred to them as "cookie trees." It was a charming quirk that added sweetness to our reading sessions. As I walked him to the door after each session, he'd point to the nearest tree and exclaim, "cookie tree," leaving behind a trail of smiles.

Expressing Cravings and Learning Desires

During our sessions, his interactions with his mother were equally enchanting. He'd turn his head toward her, a twinkle in his eye, and assert, "I want a cookie." It was more than just a desire for a sweet treat; it was a unique form of communication, a bridge between his world and ours.

Creating the CAP Cookie Alphabet Puzzle

Inspired by his love for cookies and recognizing the potential for building a strong foundation, I decided to create the CAP Cookie Alphabet Puzzle. This resource is designed to turn the joy of cookies into a tool for teaching CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words, blending, letter recognition, text structure, and the alphabet.

Unlocking Learning Through Sweet Sounds

In our sessions with the CAP Cookie Alphabet Puzzle, we explored the world of CVC words, blending letter sounds and creating a deliciously educational experience. His ability to sound out the letters and write the corresponding ones showcased his incredible potential and enthusiasm for learning.
